This should be interesting.
I don’t have one story to tell about Patti Aves, I probably have an entire book’s worth.
From how she hated me at the very start, to how we had that inappropriate chat about our love lives in the high school chapel one sunny afternoon. From handling sir Kenchi’s many challenges, to playing Hairspray’s Tracy and Link. From drunken nights (e.g. Kirsten Rice’s debut, BFF Great Escape 2009, etc. — yes, there were many) to that week-long immersion all the way in Bagac, Bataan.
Once upon a time, things weren’t complicated (as Facebook now states them to be).
Because once upon a time, during my retreat, I got breakfast and a package and a letter that embossed itself in my heart. Once upon a time, I held up a Christmas sign that said all I wanted for Christmas was for her to be happy. Once upon a time, we took an entire day off school so I could hold her hand while Bailey was put down, so we could scare ourselves while watching The Orphan, so we could spaz over Red Mango and Sisig Hooray.
And to this day, when you enter my room, one of the first things you will see is a little sign that was handed to me one day, a long time ago, asking to cease fire.
The story now? In Sarah Kay’s words (but in a different context), [time has] spread us like dandelions. I wish it hadn’t.
